Gastro-fanatics around the world can put down their remote controls and experience firsthand that cinematic liturgy made of cello soundtracks, therapeutic tears, and slow-motion smoke from Chef’s Table. Netflix’s longest-running documentary series has decided that over a decade of culinary voyeurism was enough: this coming August, the show will break the fourth wall to transform into a physical festival in Park City, Utah.

This transition from visual aesthetics to a social dimension recalls the reflections that Gelb himself shared with us during our July 2018 interview in Modena, when he was a guest of the Basque Culinary World Prize for "Transforming Society Through Gastronomy."

At that internationally renowned symposium organized by the Basque Culinary Center, the director analyzed the role of the modern chef as a pivotal figure in popular culture—one capable of exerting a profound influence on society precisely because of food's central place in everyday collective life.

The appointment with the festival is set for August 13 to 16, 2026, in Park City, Utah, for a four-day event that will shift the focus from pure visual voyeurism to the real-life dining experience.

The event, created in collaboration with American Express and Resy, will unfold across a hundred appointments hosted within thirty of the town's restaurants. The festival will feature seventy protagonists of the international culinary scene, many of whom are already familiar faces from the television series and its various spin-offs.

The event's logistical layout openly declares an Italian inspiration: the reference model is, in fact, the Ein Prosit festival of Udine and Tarvisio, as highlighted by Justin Connor, president of Chef’s Table Projects, in an interview with Bon Appétit.

The goal is to dismantle the conventions of major American food gatherings by dispensing with crowded big-top tents, endless lines for fleeting bites, and plastic cutlery. Instead, the focus will be on refined dinners, in-depth workshops, and intimate interactions. Guest chefs will take over local kitchens, developing culinary concepts created exclusively for the occasion.

The lineup of participants bridges consecrated masters and contemporary talent: from Argentina's Francis Mallmann to America's Nancy Silverton, alongside Dario Cecchini "the butcher," Peru's Virgilio Martínez, and Álvaro Clavijo of restaurant El Chato in Bogotá. Joining them will be figures such as Fariyal Abdullahi (Hav & Mar, New York), Gilberto Cetina (Holbox), Chilean pastry chef Camila Fiol, India's Gaggan Anand, Franco Pepe, and Serigne Mbaye, whose New Orleans cuisine connects Senegalese tradition with Creole comfort food.

Attendees will be able to customize their weekend through tiered ticketing options. A dedicated concierge service will curate tailored itineraries that, in addition to dinners, include side activities such as foraging sessions, fly fishing, butchery workshops, and cooking classes.

David Gelb, creator of the television format, emphasized how the festival addresses the historical limitation of food television: the impossibility of letting the viewer taste the creations shown on screen. Concentrating these experiences in a single place allows them to break through the barrier of the screen while providing an opportunity to reflect on the complexity and harsh realities of today's restaurant industry. The event thus aims to serve as a celebration of the anthropological value of the gathering—understood as the primordial act of coming together around a hearth to share food and stories.
